GLOUCESTER — On Saturday, May 15, Virginia State Police (VSP) were called to the scene to investigate a crash on Route 17, south of T.C. Walker Road, that killed a Hayes man, and left the other drive with minor, non-life threatening injuries.
VSP’s preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2019 Toyota Corolla, Jazmin Monet Johnson, was traveling northbound on Route 17 and was attempting to make a left turn into the former Paige Middle School parking lot. When she made the left turn, she put her vehicle in the path of a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by Dwayne Anthony Grigoleit, 47, of Hayes.
Grigoleit, who was traveling southbound on Route 17, attempted to avoid Johnson’s vehicle, laid down his motorcycle and was thrown, striking the Toyota. Grigoleit died at the scene from the injuries that he sustained.
Johnson suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries.
It was determined that neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors.
The crash remains under investigation with charges pending based on a review by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
