NEWPORT NEWS — Riverside Health System has begun scheduling adolescent patients ages 12-15 to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
On Monday, May 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVD-19 vaccine for adolescents ages 12-15. This is the first COVID-19 vaccine authorized for use with this age group.
In response to this news, Riverside has announced that appointments are now being offered to administer the vaccine to adolescents.

“In anticipation of the CDC vaccination advisory committee endorsing the FDA’s approval of extending Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination to adolescents aged 12-15, Riverside has begun scheduling patients in this age group for COVID vaccination, with appointments starting Monday, May 17,” Riverside released in a statement to WYDaily.
Riverside also states that these patients will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when receiving their vaccines.
