SUSSEX COUNTY — At approximately 12:21 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, Virginia State Police (VSP) were notified regarding a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 (I-95) in Sussex County.

Preliminary investigations found that a 77-year-old male was traveling northbound on I-95 in a 2010 Ford F250 while hauling a trailer that contained four horses. The truck ran off the road, striking a tree. The truck was then jackknifed by another vehicle, crashing it into yet another tree, catching the truck and trailer on fire.

The truck was fully engulfed, killing the driver and two of the horses; all of the bodies were burned beyond recognition.

On Saturday, May 8, VSP released the identity of the victim as Kenneth Richard Friedman of Morriston, Fla.

Other contributing factors to this crash have not yet been released.
