Drivers in Hampton Roads can expect closures on water crossings, interstates and notable detours for the week of Dec. 9 to Dec. 15.
This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and single lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, High Rise and James River bridges.

Bridges
- Dual-lane closures I-264 east, Dec. 10-11, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Single-lane closures south/north Dec. 10-11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Single-lane closure south Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Single-lane closures north Dec. 10-13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Single-lane closures south Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
I-64
- Full ramp closures on I-64 with signed detours in place, on Dec. 9-13, as follows:
- I-64 east and west to Route 60/Busch Gardens (exit 243A), as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 east and west to Route 143 (exit 243B), as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Route 60 on-ramp to I-64 east and west, as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 east and west to Route 199 west (exit 242A), as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 east and west to Route 199 east (exit 242B), as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Route 199 east and west on-ramps to I-64 east and west, as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 east and west to Yorktown Road/Jefferson Avenue (exit 247), as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) on-ramps to I-64 east and west, as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Yorktown Road (Route 238) on-ramp to I-64 east, as early as 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Starting overnight on Dec. 9-13, eastbound traffic shifts will begin on I-64 between the western limits of the Segment III Project, approximately 1 mile west of Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) and the Queens Creek bridges (mile marker 239), weather permitting. Traffic will be shifted to the outside lane and shoulder to allow for clearing in the median and construction of the new travel lane.
- A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure on Route 143 Merrimac Trail north to I-64 west continues. Traffic will follow detour signage in place directing motorists to the Route 143 south on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.
- I-64 west single-lane closure between Great Bridge Boulevard and I-464, Dec. 12-14, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 west/east single-lane closures between Shell Road and S. Military Highway, Dec. 10-13, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Dec. 14, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Dec. 11, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Dec. 13, 8 p.m. to midnight.
- Dec. 14-17, 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
I-264
- The City of Virginia Beach will close Greenwich Road at Witchduck Road beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, until 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17. All businesses and residences on Greenwich Road and Business Park Drive will remain accessible via the western end of Greenwich Road via Newtown Road. For more information, click HERE
- Newtown Road south will close under I-264 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. Traffic will be detoured to Center Drive. The detour will resume Monday, Dec.r 10, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The utility relocation work requiring these southbound Newtown Road detours is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 12.
- Center Drive: The left turn onto Center Drive from Newtown Road north is closed for utility relocation work. Motorists are also restricted from turning left out of Center Drive onto Newtown Road north. Signed detours are in place for both movements. These detours are scheduled to be lifted by Dec. 13.
- The following interstate lane closures are scheduled for the following week:
- I-264 west single-lane closure near Newtown Road Dec. 10-14, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-264 west dual-lane closure Witchduck Road to Newtown Road Dec. 10-14, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-264 east single-lane closure near Newtown Road Dec. 10-14, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-664
- Single-lane closure north/south Dec. 10-13, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
