Here’s what some nonprofits have to say about Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is Nov. 27 and some nonprofits, including Hampton Roads Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions, Inc and LINK of Hampton Roads, need your help.

LINK, located in Newport News, posts information about Giving Tuesday on its website and accepts donations through next year for the duration of its winter shelter program, said Lynne Finding, LINK’s executive director.

When asked what the nonprofit needed this year, Finding said they need food, a massive amount of jeans, men’s and women’s underwear, sweatshirts, sweatpants, socks in all sizes and heavy boots or shoes.

Finding also mentioned that money is also helpful since it pays for and provides transportation.

In Hampton, HELP.’s social media campaign begins after Black Friday and ends on Giving Tuesday, said Matt Stearn, HELP’s executive director.

And even though donations received on Giving Tuesday don’t make up a significant amount of HELP’s budget, the nonprofit needs items for its winter shelter program, including men’s and women’s undershirts and underwear in all sizes; non-perishable food items for its food pantry and cash donations.

Stearn said he won’t say no or turn anything away.

“Giving Tuesday is the heart of our busiest season when we are interacting with the most amount of people who are in need,” Stearn said.
