Some Hampton Police officers can verify your identity using this app

HAMPTON — The police department’s Special Investigations Unit is now using the Intellicheck Law ID app to access information quickly during undercover operations, traffic stops and other situations.

“It is a leap forward for their safety and for the safety of the citizens we serve,” said Police Chief Terry Sult.

Both uniformed and non-uniformed SIU officers can access driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations, violent felonies, wanted persons, gang involvement and terrorist information through the Law ID app using a smartphone, according to the department’s news release.

Officers can also access the FBI’s National Crime Information Center database.
