Colleges, businesses and government officials to meet regarding student vets

HAMPTON — Virginia’s Community Colleges and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services will host a student veterans event at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.

The free two-day summit will explore educational opportunities and programs for veterans with representatives from two- and four-year colleges, student veterans organizations, businesses and the government, according to a news release from Veterans Services.

The event is open to the public and the deadline is Oct. 31.

“We owe tremendous gratitude to our military veterans who have endured immense sacrifice in defense of our nation,“ said Patrice Jones, regional manager for education, transition and employment for veterans at DVS. “With an estimated 850,000 veterans residing in the Commonwealth, we have one of the largest veteran populations in America.”

The keynote speaker will be Maj. General Robert Worley II (USAF, Ret.), director of education services for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The 2018 Virginia Military & Veteran’s Education Summit is on Nov. 8- 9 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1610 Coliseum Drive.

Registration is required.
