NEWPORT NEWS  — The city’s police chief, Steve Drew, will host two Facebook Live events where residents can ask questions.

This week’s events include discussions on “crime trends” and recent changes within the department, according the police department’s news release.

“I’m looking forward to chatting with our Facebook followers during these first “Chat with a Chief” events,” Drew said. “I look forward to chatting with everyone.”

Police plan to host more virtual events on a “regular basis,” according to the news release.

Facebook users can participate in the chat by posting a question in the comment section and users without an account can watch the Facebook live video but cannot comment, said Jamie Bastas, communications specialist for the police department.

The ‘Chat with the Chief’ events are Tuesday, Oct. 23, noon to 1 p.m. and Oct. 25, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Facebook Live via the Newport News Police Department’s Facebook page.
