HAMPTON — Wil Haygood will be reading his new book, “Tigerland”, at Hampton University in the Student Center Theater in November.
The event is free and open to the public.
Haygood, whose works include “Showdown: Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court Nomination That Changed America” and “The Butler: A Witness to History,” which was later adapted into the film Lee Daniels’ “The Butler,” starring Forrest Whittaker and Oprah Winfrey, according to the university’s news release.
“I am truly excited about visiting Hampton University and sharing the stories and books that have made up my writing life as a cultural historian and journalist,” Haygood said. “The issues I’ve written about seem ever more important to discuss in today’s America.”
“Tigerland” is about two high school sports teams from a “poor, black, segregated high school in Ohio” during late 1960s. Read more about the book here.
