Celebrate National Archaeology Month with a visit to Mulberry Island

NEWPORT NEWS — The Warwick County Historical Society will visit the Matthew Jones House on Mulberry Island next week in honor of National Archaeology Month.

Mulberry Island is located on Fort Eustis and the event will be hosted by military base’s Cultural Resources Division team, according to a news release from the city.

The event will feature an “old fashioned” picnic at 1720 historic landmark house and a speaker presentation, the Tradition of Sociability in Virginia.

Beverages and food, such as hot dogs and hamburgers, will be provided, however, guests are asked to bring a side dish or dessert and can opt-out by donating $5, according to the news release.

The Warwick County Historical Society’s Mulberry Island event will be at the Matthew Jones House at Joint Base Langely-Eustis, Washington Boulevard, on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 11:30 a.m. to approximately 1:30 p.m. Guests must bring a valid photo ID to enter the base and vehicles will be inspected prior to entry.
