Hampton Roads manufacturers: Learn, share, network and collaborate in this summit

NORFOLK — Old Dominion University’s College of Continuing Education and Professional Development will have the Hampton Roads Advanced Manufacturing Summit on Oct. 11 as a follow-up to National Manufacturing Day, Oct. 5.

The annual event was designed to tinder the fire of innovation and collaboration between university, community college, industry professionals and state & local economic development officials.

“If you are a manufacturer, engineer, or have any working relationship within the manufacturing industry, this gathering is perfect for learning, sharing, networking and collaborating,” said Clair Dorsey, executive director of CEPD.

Hampton Roads Chamber reports that there are upwards of 280 manufacturing companies located in the region, employing more than 36,000 production occupations with mechanical and industrial engineers accounting for nearly 3,000 of those jobs, according to a news release from CEPD.

“To stay competitive in today’s global economy requires innovation and modernization,” Dorsey said. “Our interactive panel discussions will address topics such as digital manufacturing, skills gap, improving manufacturing competitiveness, and other manufacturing trends and issues.”

ODU’s Hampton Roads Advanced Manufacturing Summit will convene in the Big Blue Room of the Ted Constant Convocation Center from 8 am – 5 pm.

Technical sessions include four areas: Engineering systems; digital manufacturing; advanced materials; and advanced manufacturing systems.

The two panel discussions are: Industry, university and government collaboration and educational opportunities and needs.

Registration for the HRAMS is $195 and includes CEU’s, a continental breakfast and lunch; cost is $95 without earning CEU’s. There are group discounts for 6 or more registrants, according to the news release.
