Local American Legion hosts National POW/MIA Recognition Day in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS — The American Legion Braxton-Perkins Auxiliary Unit 25 will host a candlelight ceremony in honor of National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the Vietnam War Monument at the Virginia War Museum on Friday.

The event will start at 7:15 p.m. at 9285 Warwick Blvd. and will feature Patti Hallman as a guest speaker. Hallman is the daughter of Lt. Col. Charles S. Rowley, an Air Force serviceman whose plane was shot down in Laos in 1970 and was presumed missing in action.

Prior to the ceremony, the American Legion Riders Chapter 25 will have a “Remembrance Ride” to the Vietnam War monument starting at 7 p.m. Those interested in participating in the ride should meet at the Newport News Police Department, 9710 Jefferson Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
