Newport News man killed following crash on I-64

NEWPORT NEWS — Alcohol did not play a factor in a single-vehicle crash that killed a local man Saturday morning.

That’s what Virginia State Police found. They identified the man as Armand Rashad Brown.

Police said Brown was driving a 2006 Toyota Avalon west on Interstate 64 just east of Jefferson Avenue at around 3:27 a.m.

“The driver lost control, over corrected, and veered off the roadway, striking a tree head on,” said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, State Police spokeswoman. “Mr. Brown was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Anaya said Brown was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
