Here’s a list of resources in honor of National Suicide Prevention Week

Each year, 45,000 Americans die by suicide, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The AFSP wants to help reduce those numbers by hosting a National Suicide Prevention Week which will run from September 9-15, 2018.

A few ways that AFSP wants you to help out are by sharing social media messages with information for those struggling, tell your story and donate to support their mission of saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

If you are struggling with your mental health or suicidal thoughts they encourage you to call 800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741.

If you are deaf or hard of hearing call 800-799-4889.

To speak with someone in Spanish call 888-628-9454.

If you are a veteran in crisis call 800-273-8255 or text 838255.

If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender click here for a full list of resources.

For the disaster distress helpline call 800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746.

For those who live in the Hampton Roads Region there are a wide variety of resources available through I Need a Lighthouse.

To find support call one of the numbers mentioned above or visit the support page on the AFSP website.
