Newport News celebrates Southeast Community Day this weekend

NEWPORT NEWS — Join the parade and celebration of the southeast community this weekend in downtown.

The two-day event features local school marching bands, including Hampton University’s marching band, Marching Force, gospel music performances, and other festivities.

Newport News City Council members Marcellus L. Harris III, North district, and David H. Jenkins, Central district, will serve as the parade’s honorary marshals and national recording artist G.I. will perform during a free concert at the New Beech Grove Baptist Church.

The 28th Annual Southeast Community Day Parade is Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., 2016 Jefferson Ave., and Sunday, Sept. 9 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Zion Baptist Church, 633 20th St.
