Here’s a list of what’s closed and what’s open on Labor Day in Hampton and Newport News

While you’re preparing for the Labor Day holiday be mindful of these city closures.

Newport News

The following will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3:

  • City offices
  • Public Libraries
  • Recover Operations Center (i.e. landfill)
  • Garbage, recycling and bulk waste collections will be delayed one day (Monday’s collections will take place on Tuesday, etc.)

Regional Animal Shelter will be open during normal hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for owner surrenders, reclaims and stray drop offs. The shelter will be open for adoptions only between the hours of 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Hampton

The following will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3:

  • City Offices
  • Public Libraries
  • Courts
  • Health Department/Clinics
  • Social Services
  • All community centers
  • Hampton Aquatic Center
  • Treasurer’s Office & Commissioner of Revenue’s Office
  • Charles H. Taylor Arts Center
  • Garbage, recycling, refuse, bulk trash and yard waste collection will be delayed until Sept. 5

The city’s golf courses, neighborhood parks, James T. Wilson Fishing Pier, Bluebird Gap Farm, Sandy Bottom Nature Park, Hampton History Museum and the Tennis Center will all be open Monday, Sept. 3.
