NEWPORT NEWS — There will be an open house and Historic Hilton Village 100 Lecture series at the Newport News Public Library in honor of the village’s 100th anniversary.
Hosted at the library’s Main Street branch, the programs available are offered in partnership with Hilton Village 100.
Hilton Village 100 is hosting a variety of community events to celebrate and promote the distinctive history of Historic Hilton Village, the City of Newport News, and Huntington Ingalls’ Newport News Shipbuilding, according to a news release from the city.
The Virginiana Room at the Main Street Library will be hosting an open house from Aug. 18 to 31 as part of the centennial events.
They will have on display interactive Hilton Village and Old Dominion Land Company exhibits and a multimedia kiosk highlighting the community and 100-year history of Hilton Village.

In addition to the event in the Virginiana Room, the Main Street Library will be hosting Remembering One of Hilton’s Own, Author William Styron on Sept. 8 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

These centennial events are part of an effort to engage the city’s residents in the area’s rich history and foster growth and revitalization within their neighborhoods, according to the city.
