NEWPORT NEWS — The Virginia Living Museum is bringing the butterflies right to you.

The museum is hosting its 27th annual North American Butterfly Association Butterfly Count in the Blue Ridge Mountains from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. on July 21.

The day trip will allow participants to count, identify, collect and release butterflies, while also enjoying the native insects and flowers along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The day butterfly counting trip is $45 per person and there’s a $10 discount for Virginia Living Museum members. Guests must be at least 12 years old to attend and guests under 18 years old need a parent to attend.

Participants will board a Virginia Living Museum nature bus and will be asked to bring a packed lunch, according to a news release from the museum.

A fast food dinner stop will be made on the way back to the museum.
