If you’re a for-profit business, here’s how you can become SWaM certified

NEWPORT NEWS — Small, for-profit businesses now have the chance to become SWaM Certified to do business with the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity, in partnership with Christopher Newport University, is hosting a free workshop for businesses who would like to become certified or re-certified SWaM Vendors.
A SWaM vendor is a business that is either a small business or woman- or minority-owned. These businesses can be certified under the Commonwealth of Virginia to be put on a list of vendors the state uses, according to the SBSD’s website.
There will be two sessions on July 25 at CNU’s Department of Material Management and Office of Procurement Service, 301 Hiden Blvd., Suite 309:
  • 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. (Session I)
  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Session II)
SBSD staff will be on-site to provide assistance with the online process to apply for the SWaM Certification.
In this session businesses will create an account, receive assistance with uploading required documents, and submitting their application.
Seating is limited in each session.
Businesses should bring the required documents on a flash drive along with a laptop or tablet. WiFi will be available.
Advance registration is required. For information or to register, contact Angela Barber at angela.barber@sbsd.virginia.gov or visit the SBSD website.
