NEWPORT NEWS — Huntington Avenue will be closed between 39th and 42nd streets as construction crews continue to repair the bridge at 40th street over the Newport News Shipbuilding Railway.
The bridge, built in 1899, was due for repairs and will be replaced to help residents make a safer commute.
For about the next year, the section between 39th and 42nd street will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic, according to a news release from the city.
The replacement is scheduled to be completed by September 2019.
A detour will be set up for the entirety of the construction, re-routing traffic along 42nd street down Washington Avenue and back across 39th street onto Huntington Avenue, according to the news release.
