Here’s what crime looks like in Hampton so far this year

HAMPTON — With the middle of the year fast approaching, some residents may be interested to see what crime looks like in this city.

Hampton released the citywide violent crime statistics from Jan. 1 to May 17, 2018:

Aggravated Assault

Through the month of May, there were 50 reported cases of aggravated assault. In 2016 there were 49 reported cases, according to the city.

Statewide there were 98,645 assaults in 2016.

Rape

In May there were 12 cases of reported rape/sexual assault in Hampton. In 2016 there were six reported cases.

In Virginia, there were 5,529 rapes in 2016.

Robbery

So far, through the month of May, there were 46 robberies reported. In 2016 there were 68 robberies reported, according to the city.

In the state, there were 4,796 robberies in 2016.

Murder/Non-Negligent Manslaughter

As of May there were four reported cases of murder/non-negligent manslaughter. In 2016 there were 9 reported cases of murder/non-negligent manslaughter.

There were 480 cases of murder/non-negligent manslaughter in the state in 2016.
