HAMPTON — A 23-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with a shooting Saturday that left another man dead.

Miquel Johnston is charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting in an occupied dwelling.

He remains in custody at the Hampton City Jail.

Police allege Johnston killed Lawrence Antoine Fuller, also of Hampton, in the 2100 block of East Pembroke Avenue.

Johnston and Fuller “are known to each other,” police said.

Officers were dispatched around 1:36 p.m. Saturday initially on a report of a fight. The call was quickly upgraded to a shooting.

Responding officers found Fuller outside “suffering from gunshot wounds.”

He was taken to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

Fuller was 44 years old.

Police are still investigating the case.
