NEWPORT NEWS — A 42-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of another man in November 2017.

Police said Michael Paparelli, of the 800 block of Garrow Road, was taken into custody “on a direct indictment for the homicide of Corey David Hunter.”

Paparelli was booked on charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the Newport News Sheriff’s Office online jail roster.

He is being held without bond.

The shooting happened Nov. 24, 2017 on Prince William Road.

That evening at 8:20, officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene.

There, they found Hunter “lying on the ground suffering multiple gunshot wounds.”

His last known address was in the 100 block of Barcanmore Lane in York County.

Hunter died on the way to the hospital, police said. He was 34 years old.

During the course of the investigation, detectives found that Hunter “had been involved in a physical altercation with a male who is believed to be the shooter in this case.”

No other information about the arrest or the case was immediately released.
