HAMPTON — Locals will be able to walk for a good cause Wednesday.

The 8th Annual VA2K Walk & Roll will be at 11 a.m. on May 16 at the Hampton VA Medical Center. The VA2K event includes a 2-kilometer walk, which translates to about 1.24 miles.

Participants should be at the front of the Historic Entrance of Bldg. No. 110, 15 minutes prior to the start.

Though donations are not required, participants are encouraged to bring a donation such as an HRT bus pass, phone card or healthy no-cook foods, according to a  news release from the city.

The 2K Walk and Roll is a national event. Last year, more than 23,000 VA employees, veterans and community members from around the country participated, donating goods worth more than $291,300 to help homeless veterans, according to the walk’s website.

The donations that are collected will be distributed to local homeless veterans.

The event is free and open to the public.
