Here’s your chance to learn more about Newport News’ role in the Civil War

NEWPORT NEWS — A local curator will take audiences through this city’s role in the Civil War during a speaker series.

J. Michael Moore will shed light on some of the characters who have lived, fought and worked in Warwick during the Civil War at noon on May 16 at the 1884 Warwick Courthouse.

The characters Moore will document include a Virginia cavalier who died fighting against Dutch pirates, a resourceful plantation mistress and a former slave who served in the House of Delegates, according to a news release from the city.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Jason’s Deli will serve box lunches for $10.
