NEWPORT NEWS — National Bike to School Day is coming to this city.
The Newport News Bike to School Day will begin between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday with kids, parents and community leaders walking and or biking to Newport News elementary schools, according to a news release from the city.
National Bike to School Day was established in 2012 and provides an opportunity for schools across the country to celebrate bicycling to school.
The day-long event promotes increasing children’s physical activity, cyclist and pedestrian safety, traffic congestion awareness, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community, according to the news release.
The event is being organized by the Newport News Healthy and Safe Routes to School.
