Check your freezers: Ground beef recall involves Virginia Kroger stores

A North Carolina food processor has issued a recall of nearly 35,000 pounds of beef after a consumer reported having found hard plastic pieces in a package of ground beef.

The recall includes Kroger stores in Virginia where packages with a sell-by date of April 9, 2018 are involved.

According to the  U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the raw ground beef items were produced on March 22, but “FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers.”

“There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products,” FSIS officials said in a news release.

Kroger is advising consumers who may have purchased the ground beef listed in the recall to either throw it away or return it to the store for a refund.
