Hampton Roads Academy takes the top spot in reading competition

NEWPORT NEWS — The best readers reside at Hampton Roads Academy.

Hampton Roads Academy middle-schoolers defeated students from various local middle schools including  B.C. Charles, Dutrow, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Trinity Lutheran School and Yates in the Battle of the Books competition.

The Battle of the Books competition tested the students on their reading comprehension of 12 books in a quiz bowl format, according to a news release from the City of Newport News.

The teams were comprised of fourth and fifth graders. The competition was held on March 17 in Williamsburg.
