WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Community Foundation announced its 2023 scholarship recipients, awarding $152,853 in scholarships to 84 graduating seniors of Lafayette, Jamestown, and Warhill High Schools.

The foundation said this is the highest amount and the largest number of recipients in the 49 years it has been awarding scholarships.

The scholarships range from $1,500 to $5,000 and may be used for post-high school education including two- and four-year schools, the foundation said, and take into consideration a variety of factors including curriculum difficulty, class rank, extra-curricular activities, application essay, and, in some cases, financial need.

Many scholarships were also created in honor or memory of a loved one, it added, taking into account unique criteria such as interest in a particular career field, or participation in music or performing arts, sports, or community service. And several have corporate sponsors, offering field-specific awards.

Seven students received Williamsburg Community Foundation Scholarships in 2023, made possible by the local residents who donate to the Scholarship Fund and the Scholarship Endowment.

The foundation thanked its scholarship committee for its many hours of work. To see the full list of recipients, visit williamsburgcommunityfoundation.org
