WILLIAMSBURG — Five Forks Animal Clinic is celebrating the official grand opening of its brand-new veterinary clinic located in the Governor’s Green Shopping Center.
Dr. Laura Buscher and Dr. Andrew Moyer have both always shown a passion for animals. While Dr. Buscher originally saw her future working as a lion tamer as a child, she eventually settled on being a vet, wanting to care for household pets.
Meanwhile, Dr. Moyer said he had always wanted to be a vet and is now getting to live out his lifelong dream.
The privately-owned animal clinic was made possible due to years of friendship between the doctors. The two met while Dr. Moyer’s wife was finishing up graduate school in 2010 and he was working as an assistant receptionist at the same clinic where Dr. Buscher was working.
“When I had moved to Virginia, it was kind of funny ’cause Dr. Moyer had applied to vet school. And he told me he got into [University of] Illinois, so we swapped stories,” Dr. Buscher recalled, as she was originally from the area. “So he kind of told me all about Virginia and I told him all about Illinois. And so that’s why we stayed in touch besides the friendship. It was just, I knew his state and he knew mine.”
After years of friendship, they were finally able to open their own clinic together in April. The clinic strives for innovative diagnostics and treatments for both cats and dogs, as well as customized care, regardless of age.
The grand opening will provide the opportunity of an open house for people to visit the clinic, meet the doctors and enjoy some snacks and treats — for humans and pets alike. The grand opening celebration will be held on Sept. 10, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Five Forks Animal Clinic.
