HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Labor Day is observed Monday, Sept. 5. Here is how local offices and services are impacted by the federal holiday.
James City County
James City County offices, facilities, services, libraries and courts will observe the following schedule for the Labor Day holiday:
County Offices:
Closed Monday, Sept. 5.
James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Closed Monday, Sept. 5.
Parks:
All County parks are open year-round
Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park, James City County Marina and Freedom Park office/stores are open Monday, Sept. 5.
Convenience Centers:
Tewning Road, Jolly Pond Road and Toano are closed Monday, Sept. 5.
Garbage Transfer Station:
Closed Monday, Sept. 5.
Curbside Recycling:
One day delay beginning with Monday-Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, etc.
Libraries: Closed Sunday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 5.
Courts:
Closed Monday, Sept. 5.
York County
Please note the following office closures as we observe Labor Day, Monday, September 5:
- York County offices – Closed
- York County Courts – Closed
- York-Poquoson Social Services – Closed
- York County Public Libraries – Closed
- Waste Management Center offices – Closed
- York-Poquoson Cooperative Extension – Closed
Garbage/Recycling Collections
Garbage collection is not affected by the holiday. Recycling pick-up will not be conducted on Monday; collections will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Residents are reminded to place their trash and recycling containers at the roadside by 7 a.m. on their collection day.
The Transfer Station and Recycling Drop-off will be open; however, the on-site administrative offices and the VPPSA Compost Facility will be closed. Citizens needing assistance are reminded to submit requests via the Customer Service Request Portal – www.yorkcounty.gov/requests.
City of Williamsburg
The City of Williamsburg will observe Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022. All City offices will be closed. This includes the offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street, Quarterpath Recreation Center, Williamsburg Regional Library administrative offices in Stryker Center, and the Williamsburg-James City County Courthouse on Monticello Avenue.
Waller Mill Park will follow normal operating hours, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Williamsburg Library will be closed on Sunday, Sept. 4, and Monday, Sept. 5.
Garbage will be collected on its regular schedule Monday and Tuesday. Recycling collection will be delayed by one day. Monday collection is rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6; Tuesday collection is rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 7.
The City Council Work Session, which typically takes place on a Monday, is slated for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 in the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St.

Need to pay a City bill when offices are closed? A convenient 24-hour bill payment drop box is located at the front of the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St., for City transactions. Payments can also be made online. Drop box payments made on Monday, Sept. 5 will not be posted until Tuesday, Sept. 6.
