YORK COUNTY — Portions of the Colonial Parkway will be temporarily shut down as a result of the I-64 widening project.

The parkway will be closed between Hubbard Lane and Penniman Road/Sanda Avenue on Monday, Dec. 20, according to a press release from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The closure will impact both directions of traffic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Signed detours will be in place to direct drivers around the closed segments of the parkway.

During the closure, motorists traveling eastbound can expect to be detoured off the parkway and onto Hubbard Lane. They will then turn left onto Penniman Road, then turn right at the Colonial Parkway entrance before re-entering the Parkway.

Westbound traffic will take the exit ramp to Cheatham Annex and Route 199 west, and then turn left toward Route 199 and onto Sanda Avenue/Penniman Road. After 1.2 miles on Penniman Road, drivers will turn right to stay on Penniman and then bear slightly right onto Alexander Lee Parkway before turning right onto Penniman. Finally, drivers will turn right onto Hubbard Lane and continue straight under the overpass bridge before turning left onto the entrance ramp to the Colonial Parkway.
