This Holiday Season, Give Local Business a Big Boost [Free read]

One of the best ways to help our communities thrive during the holidays (and all year for that matter) is by supporting local businesses. And guess what? You can help give these businesses a big holiday boost this year.

Start by visiting, powered by Chesapeake Bank. This is a business-listing site, designed to promote local businesses and connect them to customers like you. Once you know where to shop, all you have to do next is, well, shop.

But that’s not the only way to find participating businesses. You can also keep an eye out for “The Buck Stays Here” decals displayed in store windows. These let shoppers know that the business is locally owned and operated. If you spot one while you’re out and about, make sure to stop inside. By supporting local businesses, you’re recirculating money in our community to create a stronger, more prosperous economy.

Also, be on the lookout for our Shop Local Boost Pop Ups! We’ll have $50 Chesapeake Bank Visa Gift cards and $50 Williamsburg Area Restaurant Association (WARA) gift cards that you can purchase for just $25 – doubling the dollars you can spend with local businesses so the Buck Stays Here! Limit 2 gift cards per household.

The next Shop Local Boost Pop Up is this Wednesday, November 17th from noon to 2 p.m. at Riverwalk Landing at the Freight Shed. Look for the Tide Radio tent and get your $50 Chesapeake Bank Visa gift card or $50 Williamsburg Area Restaurant Association (WARA) gift cards for just $25 – and then spread the wealth with our local businesses.

Spread the word, some cheer and a little cash this year by giving more local businesses your business. It’s a great way to give back to your community while knocking out your holiday shopping at the same time. Let’s keep the bucks here this festive time of year and all year long. Get out there this holiday season and shop like your community depends on it – because it does.

The Shop Local Boost Pop Up series is made possible by Chesapeake Bank, The Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, the James City County Economic Development Authority, the Williamsburg Economic Development Authority, the York County Economic Development Authority, Tide Radio and Learn more at Chesapeake Bank, Member FDIC.
