YORK COUNTY — York County Public School Division (YCSD) announced that it will incorporate additional planning time for teachers prior to winter break.
As a result, YCSD will convert Thrusday, Nov. 11 (Veteran’s Day), which was originally planned as an early release day, into a full staff work day/student holiday and that report cards will now be issued on Nov. 10. Additionally, Monday, Dec. 6 will now be an early release day.
Due to faculty and support staff shortages across the district, teachers have had to give up their scheduled planning times in order to teach additional classes or assume extra duties. The adjusted schedule will give them time to collaborate, plan, and review student data.
“As we recognize that adjustments to the school calendar affect our families as well, our intent has been to identify dates that will minimize disruptions for our families and allow ample time for families to prepare for these schedule changes,” a YCSD press release said. “If the additional time provided in November and December proves valuable to our teachers, students and families, division staff will evaluate options for other calendar adjustments later in the school year.”
