WILLIAMSBURG — Officers at the Williamsburg Police Department (WPD) have been wearing Pink badges to show their support of breast cancer awareness throughout the month of October.

So far, thirteen WPD officers have participated: The Chief of Police, deputy chief, two majors, two lieutenants, one investigator, and six officers purchased at least one pink badge.

The WPD Pink Badge donation is sponsored by a badge insignia company called Smith & Warren. The company advertises that they donate ten percent of all the proceeds raised from the sale of the pink badges to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).

In 2020, Smith & Warren’s Pink Badge sale raised over $12,000 for NBCF. $127.50 was donated from WPD’s purchases via Smith & Warren to NBCF.

WPD is also supporting Here for the Girls (H4TG). A non-profit organization that focuses on improving the lives of young women (under the age of 51) affected by breast cancer. WPD officers are showing their support by purchasing pink WPD police patches and challenge coins that benefit the organization.

WPD’s Lieutenant Ashley Nichols was the officer who led the department’s efforts to find ways to support women affected by breast cancer.

Locals can donate to both NBCF or H4TG online at their websites.
