GLOUCESTER — A 35-year-old man died following a single vehicle crash in Gloucester.

On Saturday, October 23, the Virginia State Police (VSP) was called by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a single vehicle crash.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Route 14 eastbound, west of Ware Neck Road.

VSP said that the driver of a 2009 Cadillac, 35-year-old Lorenzo Williams Jones, Jr. of Chester, was traveling at a high rate of speed in the curve of the roadway when he ran off into the median, over-corrected, and struck a guardrail.

The vehicle then went over the guardrail into the tree line and struck several trees before overturning and ejecting Jones.

Jones was transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

VSP said that it is unknown as of yet if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Additionally, it is undetermined at this time if Jones was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
