WILLIAMSBURG — Weather and schedule permitting, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to perform paving operations on the northern portion of the roadway in the western limits of the Longhill Road Widening Project in James City County.
Starting as early as Oct. 25, east- and westbound traffic on Longhill Road will be temporarily shifted to the eastbound lanes on the south side of the roadway, between Glenburnie Road and New Point Road. As part of this new traffic pattern estimated to be in place over the next 1-2 months, project crews will close the westbound lanes on the north side of Longhill Road to allow for paving operations within this closed section of roadway.
While this section of the roadway is closed, access will be maintained to all business entrances on the north side of the roadway within this section of the corridor, utilizing flagging operations on Longhill Road and New Point Road.
This work is dependent upon weather conditions; therefore, the schedule and duration of the work are subject to change.
Due to the increase in construction activity and current traffic configuration along Longhill Road and the Olde Towne Road/Devon Road intersection, motorists should anticipate potential delays, utilize alternate routes, and plan their commutes by using VDOT’s free traffic information tools:
