WILLIAMSBURG — Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers may be opening up a franchised restaurant in Williamsburg, Va.

The application was under Conceptual Review at the City of Williamsburg’s Oct. 12 Architectural Review Board meeting.

The owner of the property, located at 1611 and 1617 Richmond Road, submitted a plan to demolish the building currently on the property. The site is the location of a former dine-in Pizza Hut restaurant, which closed in 2020. The purpose of the demolition would be so a new building can be constructed and for the operation of a new franchised business.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is an American-style fast-food franchise company based in Wichita, Kansas. Items on its menu include steakburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and a variety of frozen custards.

There are currently four Virginia locations where the franchise operates. One in Fairfax, two in Fredricksburg, and one in Suffolk, Va. The closest Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers to the proposed Williamsburg location is located in Suffolk, Va.

Renderings of what the new building might look like can be seen on the City of Williamsburg Civic website.

WYDaily has reached out to the owner of the property and will continue to keep you up-to-date as this story develops.
