WILLIAMSBURG — Amid its renovation and expansion project, Heritage Humane Society (HHS) has plenty of events and fundraisers planned for the Greater Williamsburg community throughout the month.
$50,000 Community Gift Match Challenge
With construction on its expanded and upgraded shelter finishing in the near future, HHS is raising $50,000 to help cover the unexpected expenses from the construction project.
This includes an unplanned overhead joists replacements and the un-budgeted major new power line needed after the shelter recently lost power for a full day.

FURever Homes 8K, 5k, and Pet Run
To support local homeless pets in need, the 2nd annual FURever Homes 8K, 5k, and Pet Run will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16 at Jamestown High School, 3751 John Tyler Hwy.
The event will feature an 8k, 5k, and 1-mile run/walk, with all proceeds benefiting HHS.
The race will begin and end at Jamestown High School, and will include sections of Greensprings & the Capital Trail.
There will also be a virtual option.

A Howlin’ Halloween Event – Outdoor Movie Night
Muddy Marley’s Dog Wash will host a double feature outdoor movie night at the Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center, 5235 John Tyler Hwy., on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 7 p.m. to midnight.
The first movie will be “Hotel Transylvania” and the second movie will be “The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It.”
Tickets are $10, with a portion of the proceeds going to HHS.
Guests can bring their leashed dogs, and HHS will be onsite at the beginning of the event with adoptable dogs.
There will also be a costume contest for kids, adults and dogs, as well as a dog/owner pair. The contest is $5 to enter.
Whisky & Wags
Join HHS at Copper Fox Distillery, 901 Capitol Landing Rd., for Whisky & Wags on Sunday, Oct. 24.
From 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., guests can bring an item or items from HHS’ Supply Wish List or a minimum of a $5 cash donation and receive 50% off of a cocktail.
HHS will be at the event with information, merchandise and adoptable dogs.
Dogs on leashes are also welcome.
Paws at the River
Yorktown Market Days will hold its annual Paws at the River to bring awareness to animal rescue organizations and help find homes for adoptable pets.
On Sunday, Oct. 31, the popular market will extend down to the green in front of the Riverwalk Landing Businesses, where visitors can find educational booths.
They will also be able to get a free picture with their canine companions 9 a.m. to noon, march in the annual Halloween Pet Costume Parade at 1 p.m. and participate in the town-wide kids’ trick-or-treating event at participating businesses.
HHS will have an informational table and adoptable dogs at the market.
Ghostoberfest at Brass Cannon Brewing
Join HHS at Brass Cannon Brewing, 5476 Mooretown Rd., for a Halloween-themed event with live music by Mercy Creek, raffles, a bake sale, games, a costume contest and more on Sunday, Oct. 30 from noon to 10 p.m.
Proceeds from the bake sale and raffles will go toward HHS.
Adoptable dogs will also be at the event from 1 to 3 p.m.
