UPDATE: Crash on I-64 Causes Lane Closures

UPDATE (Oct. 4, 2021, 1:36 p.m.): The driver of the tractor trailer, Wayne R. Norwood, has been charged with reckless driving/failure to maintain proper control of one’s vehicle following the early morning accident. Norwood refused medical treatment. The driver of the dump truck, Latoya Johnson, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken from the scene. All lanes were reopened this morning. To learn more, visit WYDaily’s updated story.

JAMES CITY COUNTY — Virginia State Police (VSP) are on scene investigating a crash on Interstate 64 (I-64) in James City County, which caused closures in the westbound lanes.

At approximately 2:54 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4 at mile marker 225, a dump truck and a tracker trailer collided, with the latter vehicle reported as being “jackknifed.”

Initially, all westbound lanes were closed as a result. Sgt. Michelle Anaya, public information officer for VSP, reported that a single lane was reopened to traffic at around 5:45 a.m.

It is unclear if there were any injuries sustained.
