WILLIAMSBURG — Virginia Department of Transportation Hampton Roads (VDOT Hampton Roads) announced that as of Thurs., Sept. 30, the entrance from Longhill Road to the 7-Eleven gas station near the Olde Towne and Devon roads intersection has been temporarily closed to traffic in both directions.
Contractor crews are beginning the installation and placement of the curb and asphalt for the new median on Longhill Road.
The work will continue for the next several weeks. As construction continues, motorists will be able to access this 7-Eleven location using the entrance from Olde Towne Road.
Once the median is complete and the traffic on Longhill Road is shifted to its final road configuration, traffic traveling westward towards Centreville Road will be able to make right turns from Longhill Road to the gas station entrance.
In addition to the construction work being performed on the median installation, the contractor will also continue to place underground pipes across the roadway in multiple locations along with the project.
Lane closures under flagger control will be in place alternating each direction of traffic.
One of the flagging operations is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 4, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. between the Olde Towne Square shopping center and the Wellspring United Methodist Church.
VDOT says that due to all the increases in construction activity and current traffic configuration along Longhill and the Olde Towne Road/Devon roads intersection, motorists should anticipate potential delays, utilize alternate routes, and plan their commutes accordingly.
