HISTORIC TRIANGLE — The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and local first responders ended their search Wednesday, Sept. 29 for the 69-year-old diver who was reported missing on the Chickahominy River.
On Wednesday, the USCG reported that James City County (JCC) 9-1-1 dispatch was notified on Tuesday (Sept. 28) at 6:41 p.m. that a male diver had gone missing after diving with friends on the Chickahominy River.
The USCG said that it was working along with local response departments in the search for the 69-year-old diver.
The USCG dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from USCG Air Station Elizabeth City and a 29-foot small boat response from USCG Station Portsmouth.
According to USCG, JCC dive units recovered a body matching the description of the missing diver Wednesday afternoon.
Other agencies that assisted in the search were Coast Guard Auxiliary, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, JCC Fire Department, JCC Police Department and York County Fire Department.
