HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Early voting for the upcoming general election in Virginia begins this Friday. Below, we have included a round up of information you should know before heading to the poles.
This year’s general election is to vote on candidates for governor, lieutenant governor and for Virginia’s attorney general.
Candidates for governor include:
- Glenn Youngkin (Republican candidate)
- Terry McAuliffe (Democratic candidate),
- Princess Blanding (Libertarian candidate).
Candidates for lieutenant governor include:
- Winsome Sears (Republican candidate)
- Hala Ayala (Democratic candidate).
Candidates for Virginia’s attorney general include:
- Jason Miyares (Republican candidate)
- Mark Herring (Democratic Candidate)

Important Information:
In-person absentee/early voting for James City County registered voters will take place at the James City County Vote Center located at James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road.
An ID is required and voters do not have to have an application in advance for this method.
The last day to vote by absentee ballot in person at the James City County Vote Center is Saturday, Oct. 30.
The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Those who change their minds and choose to vote in-person after having been been mailed a ballot are allowed to, but the process will take additional time. The ballot they will be given will be the the same ballot they would have received in the mail.
Voters who change their minds about voting by mail can either surrender their blank, unopened ballot to the Precinct Chief to receive a new, in-person ballot, or receive a Provisional Ballot if they do not have their ballot.
Provisional ballots will then be reviewed and counted by the Electoral Board after noon on Friday, Nov. 5.

City of Williamsburg
Important Information:
The City of Williamsburg will hold their early voting at the City Municipal Building.
Williamsburg will be taking COVID-19 precautions by requiring the use of masks while in the building. Early voters will be allowed to vote 3 at a time at the three voting booths the city will set up. These 3 voting booths will be cleaned and sanitized after each voter casts their vote.
The House of delegates race for the 93rd district in Williamsburg will feature Jordan Gray (Republican candidate), and Mike Mullen (Democratic candidate).
For the Commissioner of Revenue, the ballot will feature Lara Overy.

York County
Important Information:
In-person early voting will start at both York County Registrar’s Office locations in Washington Square Shopping Center, 5322 George Washington Memorial Highway and in Victory Village, 6610 Mooretown Road in Williamsburg.
The offices will be open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the end of October, as well as on Saturdays, Oct. 23 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There is a mail-in-voting option and voters can track their ballot through the U.S. Postal Service.
On Nov. 2, York County voters will be choosing a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and a member of the House of Delegates. Voters in District 4 will be electing a member of the Board of Supervisors.
