YORK COUNTY — York County is in the process of applying to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to receive federal grant funding to extend the existing sidewalk on the west side of Grafton Drive (Route 621).
This proposed 2,000 ft. expansion will extend the sidewalk in front of Grafton High School/Middle School and expand it to the Rainbrook Villas housing development.
If this project is approved, the sidewalk will create a continuous walkway between Falling Spring Run and Timberline Loop. The walkway would connect Grafton Woods, Glen Laurel, The Townhomes at Martin Farm, Rainbrook Villas, and the Grafton school complex.
The project would be funded through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside, a federal grant program that provides funding for transportation projects that expand non-motorized travel choices. The project selection process is coordinated by VDOT in conjunction with the regional Metropolitan Planning Organizations. Federal funds cover 80% of the project cost, and a minimum local match of 20% is required.
York County will be hosting an informational open house that will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, at York County’s Public Works Building, 105 Service Dr. York County staff will be available during this open house to provide further information and answer any questions that citizens of York County may have.
