WILLIAMSBURG — City of Williamsburg residents and small-business owners who previously received funds from the Municipal Utility Relief Program can now apply for more relief funding.
The Municipal Utility Relief Program aims to help residents and small business-owners facing past-due water and sewer bills due to COVID-19 by providing direct assistance to customer accounts over 30 days in arrears during the covered period of March 1, 2020 to Nov. 1, 2021.
The funds can only be used to relieve past-due water and sewer bills.
Since March 2020, the City has waived penalties and halted disconnects for overdue water and sewer bills, with all penalties and disconnects resuming on Nov. 1.
The City of Williamsburg is funding the relief program with the $92,027 in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act money received in December 2020.
Previously, the relief funding was only granted once per household or account holder and their successors.
A new deadline for the application has been set for Oct. 31, 2021, or until funds are
exhausted. Intake certification forms can be found online and in the entryway of the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St.
