WILLIAMSBURG — Heritage Humane Society (HHS) has multiple events and promotions happening now through September.
From adoption promotions to a swim day for dogs, the animal shelter is engaging with the community in a variety of ways.
Clear the Shelters
The Plinko Adoption Promotion is HHS’s latest promotion for Clear the Shelters.
The facility is under construction for the renovation project, which leaves areas of the shelter that would normally be available to house pets now closed. With more than 200 pets in its kennels currently, HHS is asking the community to help clear the shelters.
Anyone who adopts a pet from now until Sept. 19 can play HHS’ new Plinko Board.
Every adoption fee will be discounted with 15% off, 25% off, 50% off or a free adoption.
In a news release, HHS Executive Director Kimberly Laska said that there are currently 62 dogs in their care compared to last year’s 22 dogs and 2019’s 32 dogs around this time of year.
Potential adopters must pre-schedule an appointment and can do so by going online and selecting three dogs they would like to meet or are considering adopting and call (757) 221-0150 ext. 0 or email info@heritagehumane.org
Drool in the Pool
Drool in the Pool returns on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Chickahominy Riverfront Park pool.
The annual event welcomes all water-loving dogs for a day of splashing and saving lives.
Pool passes for the dogs will be available at the gate. The event will feature music, refreshments and other treats.
It is $10/donation per dog, with all proceeds from the event benefit the homeless pets at Heritage Humane Society.
The event is weather permitting.
Dog Training Classes
HHS is offering group dog training classes to the public.
September puppy classes (Level 1 & 2), adult classes (Level 1 & 2), therapy training and trick training are open now.
The entire family is encouraged to attend, but handlers must be 18 years or older, or accompanied by an adult.
HHS uses family-friendly positive reinforcements in dog training classes
Adopters from HHS receive a special $40 off voucher, and discounts are available for bundled purchases.
Classes are held at the shelter, 430 Waller Mill Rd. Group classes last six weeks and meet every week at the same day and time.
