Virginia Symphony Orchestra Kicks Off Symphony Under the Stars in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) will debut its free concert series “Symphony Under the Stars” in Williamsburg.

Sponsored by William & Mary, the City of Williamsburg and the W&M Student Assembly, the orchestra will perform Symphony Under the Stars at Martha Wren Briggs Amphitheatre at Lake Matoaka, 121 Ukrop Way, on Thursday, Sept. 2.

The orchestra will perform over 10 selections from artists and musicals, including “Shall We Dance” from Richard Rodgers’ “The King and I,” “The Girl from Ipanema” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, “Chicago Medley” by John Kander and “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.

Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. before the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Wristbands are required for guests to enter due to capacity restrictions and will be distributed by the venue ticket office beginning at 6 p.m.

Once wristbands run out, the concert will be sold out.

Guests are welcome to bring beach chairs, blankets, coolers and picnic baskets, but external alcoholic beverages and glass containers are not permitted inside the venue.

General parking will be available at William & Mary’s parking deck, 201 Ukrop Way, until it reaches capacity.
