YORK COUNTY — A structural fire broke out at Best Pools in York County.
On Friday, Aug. 27, just before 11:15 a.m., the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to a commercial structural fire at Best Pools, 1624 George Washington Memorial Hwy.
A Poquoson medic unit arrived first on the scene and reported heavy fire coming from the building.
Upon arrival, York County Fire and Life Safety indicated heavy fire on multiple sides. Crews set up an aggressive defense of attack to protect exposures for adjacent buildings and evacuated people from adjacent buildings and homes.
York County Fire Chief Stephen P. Kopczynski said that the fire is now under control and crews are currently adjusting hot spots and checking air samples.
Kopczynski said that from the best they can tell, there were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
Units from Poquoson, Newport News and Langley Air Force Base were also dispatched.
As of 1:50 p.m. on the date of publication, crews are still on scene and will be for a while, Kopczynski said. Adjacent buildings have not yet been reopened, and Northbound route 17 is completely shut down.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
