UPDATE: JCCPD Seek Public’s Assistance in Locating Taken Service Dog

UPDATE (Aug. 21, 2021): James City County Police Department has announced that Ruby, a medical service dog that was stolen on Aug. 16, has been located and is safe.

JAMES CITY COUNTY — The James City County Police Department (JCCPD) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a service dog, which was taken from its owner on Aug. 16.

The service dog is known by the name Ruby. Its owner depends upon the dog for their medical condition.

Ruby is thought to have been taken without permission by a member of the owner’s family. The family member suspected is known to be homeless and frequents the Grove-area Wawa located at 6446 Richmond Road in Toano. The family member has been seen carrying Ruby in a basket on his bicycle.
