JAMES CITY COUNTY — In partnership with Ace Fitness, Billsburg Brewery is hosting the first annual Ace of Hearts Tournament to honor first responders.

The tournament will encourage a little friendly competition among police and firefighters, all for the prize of a six-foot tall Ace of Hearts trophy.

“It’s been a tough year for them and we just want them to have fun and honor them,” said Billsburg Taproom Manager, Cory Moreno.

Moreno approached Ace Fitness about doing another event with Billsburg, after the success of the Pink Fitness event back on June 5, which helped raise money for Here for the Girls with a small portion to help Ace Fitness get a sign for their gym.

According to Toni Colon, co-owner of Ace Fitness, the competition will be comprised of four challenges. In the first one, competitors will take part in a timed relay run with a medicine ball. The next challenge will take athletes through a timed obstacle course.

The third challenge, also timed, will have male competitors carrying their female team members piggy back down a track and then the females will have to wheelbarrow walk back to the finish line with help from their male teammates.

The final challenge will be a tug-o-war between teams.

Members of every local public safety department in the greater Williamsburg
area are encouraged to participate. Each department can provide up to 5 men and 5 women. If the quota is not met, the team will be merged with members from another department.

“All our events have something to do with the community,” said Robert Washington, co-owner of Ace Fitness. “You get healthy and have a good time doing it in a safe environment.”

The event will take place Saturday, Aug. 21 at Billsburg Brewery (2054 Jamestown Rd) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To sign up for the event, submit your attendance request and list of attendees to Cory Moreno at cory@billsburg.com. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 16. For more information on the event, visit the Facebook event page by clicking here.
